I celebrated a birthday this past week. There seem to be two approaches to birthdays. Either you eagerly await each and every one and enjoy celebrating each milestone. Or you dread each one, try to ignore it and hope that by so doing you won’t actually get a year older!
I have to admit to falling in the former camp. I come from a family where birthdays were a big deal. I was the oldest child and my mother, of course, started out by throwing a birthday party for me each year on my birthday. Unfortunately for Mom, for some reason, throughout my childhood, each birthday was marked by day-long downpours. By the time I was about seven I believe my mother had had quite enough of a house full of rowdy young girls and quietly resolved to never, ever have another birthday party.
