Angelina Eudora “Lisa” Felts Beck, granddaughter of a Civil War soldier and witness to the 20th century, died on June 4 at a nursing home in Bealeton, VA.
Mrs. Beck had almost reached her 104th birthday.
Bom at home in Boykins, Southampton Co., VA., in 1903, she was the last living child of the late John Baker and Annie Laura Hines Felts, and was the widow of Frederick Winston Beck.
Before she was 20, she left the family farm and got a job with AT&T in Richmond, when operators worked in long skirts and used roller skates. Soon, she was offered a job in Detroit where she became a long-distance operator supervisor. She remembers working on Black Tuesday in 1929, when the stock market crashed. After her 40-year telephone career, she volunteered with the American Red Cross in the Detroit area, coordinating transportation for a tri-county area until her 90s. A long-time resident of Royal
