Jody Green fillowed with her Salutatory Address, in which she cleverly compared a lesson on ‘'writing the perfect thesis” to navigating her way to becoming a Wakefield graduate. Ms. Green drew parallels between the two tasks, noting all the component pieces necessary to complete each process, and how each segment was interdependent on the other. She thanked her fellow students as well as the WCDS faculty for helping her successfully complete her journey.
Four senior Wakefield Singers, Jody Green, Catriona Toth, Megan Baker and Chantel Paul, sang, “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
This year’s commencement speaker was Chris Johns, a resident of Rappahannock County who has served for the past two years as editor-in-chief of National Geographic.
In his remarks, Mr. Johns shared his premise that “one is judged not by his words but by his actions,” citing examples of individuals such as Nelson Mandela who embodied that credo. He urged the graduates to use their gifts to “do what you can” to make a difference in the world.
