According to the Federal Administration on Aging, while senior citizens currently account for 15 percent of the national population, they are victims in 30 percent of all fraud cases. TRIAD SALT. Councils (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) are busy year-round building crime-fighting relationships between older citizens and their local law enforcement representatives. Both groups benefit the community by sharing goals, desires, information and resources. Through the TRIAD program, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Rappahannock County seniors will work together to better understand the issues facing the elderly and what can be done to reduce scrams and victimization.
Under the TRIAD program guidelines, local group leaders form a SALT council.
Members will focus on topics such as avoiding criminal victimization, and increasing involvement in neighborhood watch, fraud, scam warnings, and elder abuse prevention. Following the signing, a meeting will be held for all seniors, officials and county residents interested in being part of the program.
