“I’m really trying to reinvent and I want to get ideas,” he said.
Charlene James-Duguid was interested in the idea of branding an area.
“What it should mean is finding the essence of a community and developing that essence,” she said.
James-Duguid, founder and director of the Rappahannock Repertory Company, said branding means people have to decide what assets the community wants to emphasize.
“It is possible, but more people have to. get on the bandwagon and make choices,” she said.
Mitzie Young, a member of the Town of Washington Planning Commission, said the town and county are dealing with changes and she wants to help preserve it.
“There is a desperate need for housing for teachers, fire and rescue workers and health-cai^e workers,” Young said.
Auxiliary units, such as unused garages and bams, on larger estates are plentiful in the county and could solve the workforce housing problem, she said. Such situations would be mutually beneficial for elderly property owners and younger residents of the county, she explained.
