SCC sets Warrenton hearing

The State Corporation Commission has scheduled four public hearings on Dominion Virginia Power’s proposed 500,000volt power line, the first slated in Warrenton on July 26-27 in the Fauquier High School auditorium.

On April 19, Dominion submitted a 1,000-plus page application to build the power line along 65 miles of existing right of way. They line would meander through parts of seven counties, including Fauquier, Rappahannock, Culpeper and Loudoun.

The hearing will begin at 1:30 p.m., then reconvene at 7 p.m. It will continue Friday, July 27, at 9:30 a.m. Anyone wishing to comment at this or any of the other three hearings should arrive early and sign in with the bailiff, according to an SCC press release.

Hearings wifi follow at Matsteller Middle School in Bristow on Aug. 9-10, at James Wood High School in Winchester on Aug. 13-14, and at the North Warren Volunteer Fire Department in Front Royal on Aug. 15-16.

All hearings begin at 1:30 p.m. and reconvene at 7 p.m. on the first day. On the second day, the hearings get under way at 9:30 a.m.

The evidentiary hearing will begin in Richmond on Jan. 14. Public comments will also be accepted at the beginning of that hearing. The SCC “will render a decision on the need for each segment of line,” according to Monday’s notification. “The SCC must also establish appropriate conditions to minimize any adverse environmental impact of each line. The commission has asked for legal memorandums on whether Virginia law permits or requires the commission to consider the regional need for the facilities proposed in Virginia.”
