Rappahannock County's local poet of the Veterans of Foreign Wars is losing its charter. But the Sperryville Rescue Squad is gaining its own building.
That is the bittersweet resolution that come from the local VFW’s troubles with the organization's state and national headquarters.
VFW State Commander Bill Shifflett said Sperryville's Post 1150 is scheduled to have its charter revoked. The good news is the rescue squad that shares the Main Street building with the VFW will be allowed to stay.
Shifflett said the 13 district commanders that represent VFW posts from around Virginia voted to transfer ownership of the property to the rescue squad.
