"There’s so many things that Td like to change; there’s so many things that Td like to see. implemented,” she said.
Her ideas for reform spring from close relationships with many of the teachers and students at Rappahannock County public schools.
Hitt drives her twin sixthgraders, Dylan and Evan, to school at Rappahannock County Elementary School every morning during the week. At a little after 8 a.m., she finds a spot in the school parking lot, sends the boys on their way and then makes her rounds. She pokes her head into the classrooms and briefly chats with the teachers. She greets the students in the halls, and the students greet her back.
If it’s a Tuesday — the day she volunteers at the school — she will head to the teachers’ lounge and get to work photocopying papers for the 6thgrade teachers.
