Hitt has extensive experience raising money. She has raised funds for both the Rappahannock Athletic Association and the Rappahannock County School Sports Association, and served on each of the athletic groups’ board.
With the Rappahannock Athletic Association she helped transform Stuart Field, a baseball field in Amissville, into a top-notch facility. She said she raised $6,000 by negotiating agreements with local businesses to place advertising signs on the field’s fence. Hitt estimates that in total she has raised close to a quarter of a million dollars for the field.
Before establishing herself as a champion advocate of education and sports in the county, Hitt worked in the car business, acquiring a dealer’s license when she was 27 and opening a used car lot in Warrenton. She had moved to the area alter high school, but settled in Rappahannock in 1994.
“My agenda is to provide the technology, the resources, and the facilities that every other child is afforded in this state to our kids at our school, and doing so without causing a burden on the tax payers of this county,” she said.
