Washington Baptist Church celebrated its 125th anniversary this past Sunday. It was also their Homecoming Sunday and the guest preacher was Rev. Richard L. “Lanny” Horton, Director of Missions for the Shiloh Baptist Association. Rev. Horton brought with him copies of the new Shiloh Baptist Association history. The church enjoyed a day of fellowship and remembrance followed by a covered-dish lunch in the church fellowship hall. It was especially pleasing to have Mrs. Linnie Cummings and her daughter Betty Klise in attendance. Mrs. Cummings, a former member, became a centurion on Sept. 6. The plaque on the front of the church was refurbished and dedicated in her honor. She traveled from Portsmouth, Virginia for the celebration.
Anniversary T-shirts were available for purchase to all that came. There are still some available. Proceeds from this sale go to the church’s Long Term Maintenance Fund. Call the church office at 540-6753336 for more information.
