Post 1150 formed in 1944 and the group has left its mark on Spenyville and Rappahannock during the past 63 years. Most recently, Post 1150 raised some $11,000 to erect a monument to the county’s veterans in Sperryville Cemetery. On Memorial Day, the post’s members dedicated the granite obelisk at the top of the cemetery’s main stairway. Since then, the post expanded the project to refurbish the cemetery’s formerly weathered stairway and installed new gates at the main entrance.

Post 1150 has been designated an Honor Post each year since 1995. Posts earn the honor distinction by maintaining or increasing the number of members in the post and submitting the many reports required by the VTW’s state headquarters.
