An investigation into a July burglary at a Rappahannock County gun store has unfolded into an interstate case involving several firearm burglaries, the distribution of weapons across state lines and at least one armed robbery.
During the night of July 19, some burglars slipped through a roof vent at Trading Post Guns near the Town of Washington and stole 42 handguns. The perpetrators had several hours to get away, as the crime was not discovered until the following morning when Trading Post owner Ken Carter opened his shop.
Lt. Connie Smith of the Rappahannock County Sheriff*s Office said Monday that the case has been solved. Two suspects have been incarcerated in connection with the case and other suspects have been identified, but are not yet in custody, Smith said. She did not release the names of the suspects because some of them have not yet been arrested.
