Schools (dosed Oct. 10 due to infection

A student at Rappahannock County High School was diagnosed and hospitalized with a Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus (Staph) Auras infection known as MRSA

A professional cleaning company is disinfecting all athletic areas at the high school. Staff are following the disinfection procedures recommended by the infection control office at the hospital, and cleaning all other areas with a bleach and water solution. A specially formulated Lysol product will be sprayed on all desks, dudrs, door knobs and other surfaces at the high school. Rappahnnock County Elementary School Principal Carol Johnson and staff volunteers will similarly dean the elementary school. The transportation staff will disinfect the school buses.

AD football uniforms will be washed in commercial washers at high temperatures, with disinfectant solutions. Two football coaches volunteered to transport all football gear to Philadelphia for commercial disinfection.

Additionally, we are in the process of making modifications in the craning weeks to the wrestling room/football locker area to install windows and a an exhaust fan. Provisions will also be made to purchase a commercial washer and dryer to regularly wash and disinfect players’ uniforms. The players are issued separate equipment, but we need to also provide separate locker space in the future so that belongings can be kept separate and hung up to dry.
