But Hitt also considers direct involvement in the schools a central duty of school board members, and one that she thinks the current board has largely neglected.
"I want to go in there, and Fm going to sit in every single classroom, and I want to observe,* she said.
She would combine her presence at the school with open lines of communication.
“If I get elected 111 make it perfectly dear that if any teacher or any community member or any student has anything to say — any suggestions, any comments — that I. will be available with open ears,” she said.
Growing up in a small town in rural upstate New York, Hitt was on her high school track, diving and cheer leading teams. She was also an the travel dub and in the Future Business Leaders of America.
She remembers that her school had an indoor track and lights for the football and baseball fields. Comparing her old school's facilities with those at Rappahannock public school, she finds the county schools in need of a face-lift.
