Canoe trip
We just returned from a three-day long canoe trip down the South Fork Shenandoah River, where students explored oral tradition and mythology by sharing Native American myths while sitting around the campfire. In the humanities, they are also learning about Rappahannock history through oral tradition by interviewing elders in the community to find out what the area was like several generations ago. They are experiencing firsthand the ways in which Rappahannock County and Belle Meade have changed over the past century. In the sciences, they are studying the evolution of simple machines to complex machines and the ways in which that has changed our landscape.
