Dave Naser did not hide his disappointment with his Rappahannock County High School Scholastic Bowl team. George Mason, the defending Group A state champion, handed the Panthers their worst loss of the season, 240135, Monday night in Falls Church.
Sure, all of Rappahannock County*s losses have come this season to George Mason. But each time the two have played, the Mustangs get better and dominate the Panthers.
“Fm not happy. Is it okay not to be happy” Naser said after his Panthers ran their record to 10-3 this season. “I was disappointed in the lack of participation. We had half of our players there, and we just fell to the pressure of playing George Mason at their facility.”
Naser pointed out that the Panthers dropped the season opener to the Mustangs, who have not lost a district match in three years, 190-180. The reason why Naser was embarrassed about his team’s performance was because Shawn Pickrell, the gentleman who develops all the questions for the state’s Scholastic Bowl matches, serves as quizmaster of the George Mason-Rappahannock showdown.
“I think a lot of factors made our kids lose their cool,” Naser said. “We’re fighting for second place now in the Bull Run District.”
