This recipe is taken from Marguerite Henry’s classic “Pictorial History of Misty of Chincoteague,” in which she traces the life and times of the real pony Misty who inspired her series of children s books.
Misty was bred and born on Assateague, a rugged island on Virginia’s Atlantic coast. She was rounded up and swam to the mainland and was sold at the annual wild pony auction held by the Chincoteague Fife Department.
