business that brings frequent visits from FedEx. Their two daughters, Erica and Emily, got to know Ford so well that they would run to give him hugs when they saw him. During the holidays each year, Beth and the girls would give him a homemade Christmas ornament.
On Aug. 16, Ford was driving his van as usual, listening to music and making deliveries along his Rappahannock route. He was in an area of the county that usually provides no cell phone service, but a call somehow came through that day.
On the other end of the phone was a fellow FedEx driver. He was missing a package and thought it may have been in Ford’s van.
Before hanging up, the other driver asked Ford if he had heard about the news at Virginia Tech. Ford immediately got a bad feeling in his stomach.
