Each of the mostly elementaryschool-age children was paired up with an adult and alloted $100. They rushed through the aisles, crossing off items on paper Christmas lists.
Winter jackets, sweaters, shoes and socks were tossed into shopping carts. A bicycle, a fishing pole and a Harry Potter DVD were snatched from the store shelves.
The trip was intended to lend a helping hand to families who might have trouble affording gifts during the holidays. The officers encouraged the kids to spend most of their money on necessities, with about $30 saved for toys.
