Because ice covered Chester Gap last Sunday morning, Willis Chapel UMC had to postpone the annual Christmas program and it is rescheduled for Sunday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. Please come out to see a wonderful play that celebrates the birth of Jesus. Several people from Flint Hill and Huntly will be participating with folks from Sperryville in the Annual Community Christmas Eve Service at Sperryville UMC, Dec 24, at 8 p.m. An added benefit this year is that the church has a new ramp that allows for wheelchair and handicap access. Families and friends will gather to sing familiar carols and hear the Christmas story once again. This is a candlelight service with Holy Communion. Everyone in the community, regardless of church affiliation, is encouraged to attend!

Recovery from surgery like total knee replacement has its benefits. I have had many visitors and I am thankful for the company. A couple weeks ago, June Jordan of Sperryville, stopped by. She gave me a wonderfully therapeutic foot massage, saying that it would encourage better circulation of blood to my wounded knee. It was heavenly and healing! Then she announced she was going to wash my dishes! My mouth said, “Oh, you don’t have to do that,” but my heart shouted, “Hallelujah!” It had been days since I had seen the bottom of the dish pan. Trent was with me the day June stopped by. He was supposed to be helping Uncle Aaron put up a hand rail along the ponch steps, but with a new face present, he decided he should stay indoors. Trent always “helps” Grammy wash dishes. So, when June started filling the dish pan with hot water, Trent pulled up the big tin lard can (where Grammy stores her flour) and took his place as chief helper. He has a certain dish washing routine that includes a big red plastic spoon, bubbles and any other object within reach. Standing by
