Help us nose out the news

As has become standard, this is the time of year to look ahead to the approaching competition and riding seasons. And, as has become standard, this is the place for us to ask for your' help in unearthing Fauquier’s horse news.

The Fauquier Times-Democrat remains the only mainstream newspaper with a dedicated Horse and Field Sports section, an award-winning part of the local county weekly that gives it an unmistakable Horse Country flair.

But the news does not emanate strictly from within — we need your help to nose out the news. Here are some guidelines to help you help us throughout 2008 and beyond:

• Sporting Calendar: This section is the most popular, most indispensable part of the section, both for competitors an{* for spectators. We need your help getting the word out: please send competition calendars as soon as your stable or organization decides dates. For planning purposes, area horsemen find it an invaluable resource to be able to log onto our Web site and search the entire 2008 horse sports calendarcontaining all the events, big and small Send datng as goon as possible.

• Horses and IVople briefs: We need to know the news: Some information tidbits float through the Horse Sports desk here in Warrenton, and we’re out and about looking for stories, but, really, readers are our best resource. If you or your neighbor or friend has done something great, or you know something interesting that we might miss, call or e-mail. We aren’t mind readers: Brag a little. Tell us what you’ve done or what you’ve won. That’s the way we can completely report the news.

• Features: New in town? Have a great business idea? Horses winning prizes? Tell us. Again, we aren’t able to attend each and every event in the region, and we definitely can’t read your minds. If you or your horses, or someone you know, is performing well, say so. The Horse Sports department is always looking for story ideas.

• Photos: Any time you have a great photo idea (a den with baby foxes this spring, say, or a horse who does a tridr on command) let us know. We’re alwavs able to come record the
