The President and Congress have set ambitious goals (36 billion gallons of biofuels and at least 10% of the electricity from renewable sources). The Farm Bill and Energy Bill being worked out in Congress right now would set mandates for achieving these goals.

In Virginia, where we are at less than 2 percent renewable electricity; for us to meet these standards, we would have to do it without tapping into our food supply. To date, there is a loud and angry opposition rising within the country against producing bio-fuels from crops such as corn and soybeans. In a recent UN report it was said that bio-fuels from crops are a “crime against humanity” that could lead us to “famine ”
