“I’ve had more requests this year than I’ve ever had,” he said.
Funds for the event were raised mostly from individuals in the community.
But Brown said that a day shopping with the officers provides more than just holiday presents for the kids.
“They get to see the positive side of the police,” he said. “And they have a lot of fun.”
After shopping, the gifts were LoaifedV into a pickup truck and ~hatllBd to the Washington Baptist Church. They were wrapped by a roomful of volunteers and then dropped off at the Washington Fire Hall, where the officers and kids had headed for a hearty breakfast.
Also waiting for the kids at the fire hall were food baskets — which were overflowing with 20-pound turkeys, fruit and canned vegetables — and Santa Claus.
