Over the hills to Sandra’s house The Thornton Hill Hounds, one of the largest “Hunts” in the area and the only one based in Rappahannock, went fox chasing last Friday. The kennels for the THH are located at Thornton Hill Farm on Route 522, owned by attorney and farmer Bill Fletcher. After running hum Slate Mills Road to Hawlin Road for a four-hour hunt, the hunters and hounds returned to “base” at th§ Conyers House for a Hunt Breakfast. Basking in the early afternoon sun, Masters of the Hunt Brett Jackson and Lany LeHew hurried in to sample a feast prepared by Sandra Cartwright-Brown in the historic Conyers House B&B on Slate Mills Road. Reflecting on the weather and whether the ground would be firm enough for the hunt, Cartwright-Brown noted, “As a hostess, you never know until the morning of the hunt if you’re going to have 15 or 60 hungry hunters, so you just pray that you have enough.” There was more than ample fare for the 35 hunters at this breakfast.
