LURAY, VIRGINIA—Page Valley Cycling bicycle club announced last week that it has been approved to host the first annual Page Valley Road Race bicycle road race on August 24, 2008 by the Virginia Cycling Association.
“This is very gifiting and an important step in the development of cycling and racing in Page County and the Shenandoah Valley,” said David Duke, president of Page Valley Cycling. “The club conceived the idea of the road race in order to promote cycling locally and we’re thrilled to have accomplished so much already for race’s inaugural year. We worked hard to get the race approved and then selected as both a Virginia Cycling and MABRA event. This feat says a lot about our County and our club.”
The race was added to the Virginia Cycling Association racing circuit and selected as the 2008 Championship Road Race by the Virginia Cycling Association (VCA) as well as a Best AllRound (BAR) rider points race by the Mid-Atlantic Bicycle Racing Association (MABRA).
“We’re very excited to have the Page Valley Road Race as part of Virginia Cycling’s road racing calendar for 2008 and as the Virginia State Championship road race as well,” said Dr Ruth Stornetta, a member of the board of the Virginia Cycling Association and the course approver “Riders are going to love this course!”
