Mayor Fitch believes that, what Warrenton does to become energy independent can be used as a template for other communities with landfill areas. And it could pave the way for revolutionizing how communities around the country supply electricity and fuel to their households and businesses. Elected officials across the country as well as international development organizations are watching closely the progress of the Warrenton project, because of its applicability to communities of any size including rural areas in developing countries. Decentralization of energy, according to a Senate Energy Committee report, will ultimately make the country more secure and help bring about the goal of energy independence.
“Let’s turn our wastes from a liability into an asset by applying the latest technology to solving the energy issue,” Mayor Fitch said in conclusion.
