Pay-As-You-Go Policy

In a lively discussion at its March meeting last week (March 4) the AmissvHle VFD decided to slow up construction of its new firehouse until more money became available. The action was based on Treasurer Theadore Barron’s report (that construction funds were almost exhausted. Simultaneously the building com* mittee reported that the upper floor was still incomplete, a well had to be drilled for a water supply, and many other needs had to be met. A motion offered by A. C. Latham, seconded by Fire Chief Charles 'Compton, to adopt a pay-as-you-go policy of construction was put to vote by President Thomas Tear and carried 16 to 8. Proponents of the motion maintained that not enough emphasis was being placed on fire fighting equipment.

Members were unanimous in agreeing, however, that more effort had to be made to get community donations, and that a strong drive for funds was necessary. Announcing that C. M. M. Green had donated $500 on top of other previous gifts of cash and materials, President Tear declared: “We've got to interest every member of the community to contribute to this community project to the extent of his ability, even if it is only a small sum. Few of us can pfford to be a ■generous as Mr Green but all of us can contribute something. Even a dollar win help.” 7

Plans for a minstrel show of the building dedication were almost discussed at the meeting. Local talent will be scouted. Col. J. Caper ton of Fancy Capers Farm, Amissvilfe, was named director and talent scout.

The County Council Turkey Supper will be held in the Fire Hall in Washington on March 13 from 5 to 7 o’clock. Having company? Bring them out and .treat them to a real •turkey dinner wkh all the fixings. Even if you aren’t having company bring your family. We know they will enjoy roast turkey, gravy, dressing, green peas, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, cole slaw, sauer kraut, coffee, hot rolls and apple pie for only $1.50 for grown ups and $1 for children under ten. « • Dinner will be served by club girls, and proceeds wil go to Che County Council for sending delegates to Short Course, County Fair, etc.
