WAat is 4-H work?

What is 4-H work? It was a movement started by educators around the turn of the century. They decided that young people should learn how to live as well as to make a liying, that the pu pil was morf important than any lesson. The primary purpose to teach farm youth to farm and to make a home was important but the boy or girl was more important than the field of wheat or the curtains in the kitchen. At first the leaders and instructors were regular school teachers but as time went on it was realized that teachers who were teaching a room of pupils, often more than one grade, had no time to carry on a really successful program. Therefore it was combined with Agricultural Extension Work, with the State land grant colleges and the Department of Agriculture cooperating.

The objects of clul? work were to develop the economic, physical, intelectual, and spiritual life of farm boys and girls. This is done by creating interest among the young people in problems pertaining to farm and community, and enlisting their efforts and co-operation along with that of their parents and neighbors in establishing better agriculture and home economic practices, and in rural betterment generally.
