Does this mean that all members keep on taking the same project over and over? No, it doesn’t While there are not enough leaders for some' clubs, the ones we have are doing a grand job and clubs are progressing. But with more leaders, we could get right to the top. Prizes and Honors aren’t the most imporant thing, the fact that a girl you helped is the best housekeeper in town can mean a lot and who can telrwhat new methods you might learn yourself? The future also depends on the club meiribers themselves. Why do they drop club work when they get in high school? One reason is that old thing of taking the same project over and over and another is they join Home Ec or Agriculture classes and learn so much that 4-H work seems, dull. It’s just that they don’t realize how much fun the work could be if they were on some of those teams we talked about training or if they had cooked up some wonderful dishes at club meetings. With out more leaders, I’m afraid the dub will keep going in its old circle of training all the boys and girls who have just turned ten and having most of them drop out in three or four wears. Parents have given support to the County banquet and the Rural Electrification project. They are becoming more interested and are helping dub members more. Business men gave prizes for the fairs and have helped support 4-H work. Projects are getting better and more* interesting but there is still too much repeating of old projects when there should be progress to new. If a giri makes a cotton dress every ear for three years or a boy buys a calf, raises it and sells it instead of budding a herd, where is the progress or profit? The club motto is "Make the Best Better" not "Leam one thing and do it ^forever."
What does the future depend on? First the member then the parent and then the leader, not necessarily in that order. We need more members who are willing to, work, more parents to help, approve and take interest and leaders who would rather raise a boy who knows and loves good stock than to raise the stock, to raise a girl who can make wonderful cake than bake it. It’s one way of having your cake and eating it too to hear a successful member say "My leader helped me win.”
And we could have winners if members stayed in and built a record. Most of the county winners for 19461950 are still in high school. They dropped club work because it wasn't interesting. Perhaps so much changing of home agents helped some. But if ready effective and worthwhile projects ar supported by parents and taught by leaders, there’s no telling whet m could do in the future.
