Just go over once every week or so and see how he’s, doing. TeU him that he’s got a nice field of corn or a good looking sheep. SRow him how to groom his cart • for a show. You can feel mighty proud when a boy you help wins a oontest or ribbon. Show him about keeping records and feed costs and how ti figure if the animal is getting his correct ration of minerals, etc.
There is no better way to learn how to do a thing yourself than to show others how (to do it If you ever took stock or corn judging in 4-H, F.F.A. or in college, why not tell the agent that you’ll brush up on it and help out some dub boys ? The agent doesn’t alwas have as much time as you think, and certainly one or two meetings wouldn’t take much &f yours, but it might mean a state winner in a few years. If you have raised dairy cattle or beef cattle for years, why can’t you help train a judging team? There has not been a judging team trained in this county since 1934 or 1935; when before that time our teams won state contests. Maybe you’ll have to study the latest and best methods a little so as to be sure you are right but there’s where it will help you too. If you know the latest rules of judging then you can better prepare your own animals to win prizes.
Find out what boys in your community are in the dub from the agent and help that group of boys ibe the best in the county or someday in the state
Girls' clubs work o» a project called ‘So You’d Like To Sew.” First year members learn how ttr hem fringe draw a, thread etc. But second year girls who could be making a dress, have to take the project over because the agent hasn’t time to conduct two projects. After about the second year, they drop out because they’ve done it all before If there was just a leader there to take the older* girls and go a little farther, to teach • few points like fitting, altering and finishing touches. Or an adult who would have the members to her home lor an extra session of making something really good, a finished product to he proud of.
