The Lady Panthers came in third place at the Skyline District meet held at James Madison University on Saturday, inched out of second by one point. Final tallies were Stonewall Jackson 108, Luray 56 and Rappahannock 55. Lynell Prudhum’s false start in the 110 hurdles was a crushing blow to the team as it disqualified Prudhum from not only Saturday’s competition but also the reginal meet at J.M.U. this Friday and the state meet later in the month.
The top six finishers in each event will travel to the regionals in Harrisonburg. Rappahannock’s three firstplace winners—Liz Freeman in the 880 (2:32.5), Ann Thomas in the two-mile and Jennettg Beebe in the discus throw—will be joined by Johanna Day who was fourth in the high jump, Prudhum who was third in the long jump and Ronda Wiley who took third in the 110 hurdles. Natalie Swindler (sixth in the 110 hurdles), Tammy Atkins (fourth in discus) and Donna Gore (sixth in discus) will also compete in the regionals along with the Panther’s third place 880 relay team of Natalie Swindler, Jackie Myers, Janice Aylor and Lynell Prudhum. In addition, Thomas qualified for the mile run with her secondplace finish in that event.
The Skyline District AllStar Track Team for 1979 was announced prior to Saturday’s district meet. Lynell Prudhum was named top hurdler and middle distance runner. Ann Spieker was second in the balloting for girl’s coach of the year.
