Rappahannock High School’s athletic banquet will x held on Saturday, May 19, it the elementary school :afeteria begining at 7:30. 3uest speaker will be Bob Hamilton, head basketball coach for the United States Naval Academy.
Hamilton’s first Midshipman team in 1976-77 went 13-11 and was ranked 12th in the nation in team defense and fifth in the county in rebounding margin, despite the height limitations at the Academy. A year ago, he prodded the Mids to a 14-11 record, the best at Navy in 16 years and also its most wins in the sport in 18 years.
Hamilton came to the Naval Academy in 1976 after six years at his alma mater, Wittenberg University, where in addition to a record of 119 wins and 38 losses and four trips to the NCAA College Division playoffs, he established a strong reputation for getting the most out of his players.
Hamilton’s teaching abilities are another of his strong points as evidenced by the fact that his eight-year overall record as a head coach shows 146 wins and 60 losses.
