The need for an adult; activities center, a facility to provide day-care, instructions and other services for the ., handicapped, has long been known. A 1977 survey,; conducted by the Rap-^ pahannock-Rapidan Com-;; munity Services Board,j. identified 105 area residents in need of such services.
Despite this, and several} proposals for such a center, no action has been taken to* fill this community need until’ recently when FORE, the workshop for the hand~ icapped located in Remington, announced plans to establish an activities center in a sattelite location,1 Robert Huntley, Director at FORE, is asking local service clubs and agencies to lend their support and backing, in the form of letters of support, pledges of funds or equipment and volunteer services.
The response thus far, said Huntley has been very encouraging and with continued community support he hopes to open the center in mid-August. Interested groups or citizens may contact FORE at 439-3505 for additional information or to schedule a speaker for meetings.
