Since the board eliminated six of the ten classrooms suggested by the capital outlay committee in its second alternative, Mrs. Kilpatrick asked which six classrooms the board considered as “frivolous extras?”
If available funds are limited, she suggested, construction of the green house and horticulture classroom proposed by the capital outlay committee should be postponed, not eliminated. Mrs. Kilpatrick maintained that the county high school should institute its own vocation programs rather than depend so heavily on Piedmont Regional School. She noted that students who attend classes at Piedmont spend one-anda-half hours a day on the bus in addition to the time spent traveling to and from home. This is “a terrible waste of an adolescent’s time,” she charged.
With the time required for travel to the regional school, students have opportunity for only two full classes at RCHS, she said, adding that some were taking three courses.
