“I’m sure they were the same dogs that were running my cows and calves,” remarked Commonwealth Attorney George Davis, adding that he’d told the owner that the dogs would be shot if the chasing didn't stop. “The only reason I didn’t kill them was because I didn’t have my gun,” Davis said.
Luke suggested a payment of $90 for the calf and $30 a head for the sheep. “Fair enough?” he asked.
"That depends on whether you’re buying or selling,” Davis countered with a wide smile.
The board voted unanimously to approve Lee’s claim of $180.
Goats Too
In a second claim, Bruce reported that William Senkewitz had one sheep and four goats killed by dogs. “I got both dogs and everything’s been quiet since then,” Bruce said.
The supervisors unanimously approved $65 for the ewe and $40 each for the goats, the amount the animals are assessed for tax purposes. In the final claim, Bruce said he’d been called by Dabney Eastham at 8:30 in the morning after dogs had reportedly chased one of Eastham’s 240-pound calves
