In opening remarks, Joel Daczewitz, citizen representative on the school board’s capital outlay study committee, reported that a recent survey showed onethird of the high school students interested in horticulture classes. Daczewitz said the survey was taken after the school board eliminated the green house and horticulture classroom from expansion plans as an alternative to building everything proposed by the capital outlay committee.
“At the current time, we have the very bare minimum of course offerings, both academic and vocational, to meet accreditation standards,” said Dr. Bloomer. The horticulture program, he said, would offer a “broad based agricultural option,” including soil studies, disease control and fertilizers. A green house will provide an opportunity to grow plants and conduct field activities in floral culture and landscaping, he added.
