For the new clerk’s office, the supervisors agreed to withhold final payment to Lantz Construction Company until problems with a wet basement and front door locks are corrected. The board authorized Luke to write architect Avery Faulkner stating the position of the supervisors.
Commonwealth Attorney George Davis maintained that it is the architect’s responsibility to see that the contractor carries out plans properly. “That’s what he’s paid for,” Davis added.
In addition to the lock on the clerk’s office, Col. Luke noted that the lock on the front door of the court house needed attention. He told the other supervisors that it took almost 30 minutes to get the door open at times for planning commission meetings.
Clerk Diane Bruce noted that the lock had been rebuilt three years ago but only on the outside, requiring court house employees to carry two keys—one to open the door from the outside and another to open the door from the inside.
