W. O. Scott from Jackson District requested that two miles of Route 637 between 211 and 647 be blacktopped He noted that 14 families with an average of four vehicles per household used the two-mile section that was graded and widened but not paved two years ago. He added that the remainder of Route 637 hadn't been widened and was dangerous for school buses to travel.
With the receipt of the special "hard surface fund." Askew replied. Route 673 could be considered for hardtopping in the coming fiscal year even though the improvement isn’t included in the six-year plan. He noted that additional right-of-way on the road would have to be donated and suggested that Scott repeat his request at the public hearing this fall when the six-year plan is reviewed and updated.
Another citizen requested that Route 640 be hardtopped to correct school bus safety hazards. Askew replied that the sixyear plan calls for improvements to Route 640 in fiscal year 1981-82. "Here again, we need the right-ofway,” he said, suggesting that land owners be contacted for donations.
D. L. Jones asked if the pot holes on Route 637 could be repaired now that the contractors working on the Vepco power line have moved out of the county. “Too bad you can’t get the contractors to pay for it,” he said.
