With her contacts among high school hockey coaches in Fauquier and Stafford, she plans to arrange a couple of outside games for her girls. Aware of budgetary constraints in the RCHS athletic program, she said she will try this summer to secure equipment loans through the U. S. Field Hockey Association.
On top of her work with kids, Lowe also runs an exercise class for adults that meets weekly at the elementary school in the evening. “Runs” is the right word for it too since the major emphasis in the course is on jogging for fitness.
Summer Camp Try-Outa
In between Olympic tryouts, Lowe will coach high school girls in field hockey at the Tidewater District’s summer camp. She’ll attend camp herself in competition to make the U. S. team, first at JMU’s “C” camp during the last week in July for a week’s observation, then, if she passes through cuts, on to “B” camp in New Jersey for a week. Once she makes it oast the “B” camo wars, she’ll be a member of the U. S. squad and will attend the final “A” camp in Colorado for another week.
To be on the safe side, she’d probably be wise in making a preliminary request now for time off from classes to compete in the Olympics. With her hectic schedule, she may be too busy to remember to ask later.
