tiques, gone is the stuffy mildew smell that usually hangs on to old furniture.
Instead, the air at Faith Mountain is rich with the aromas of natural perfumes. Fragrances slip out from colorful bags of sachet, from naturally scented soaps, from jars of dried herbs.
Herbs, herb books and herb products are everywhere in the two downstairs display rooms. They cover the tops of pie tables, desks, jelly cupboards and side boards. The smells combine with Cheri’s knack for furniture arrangement to create an atmosphere more like a home than a business.
And Faith Mountain is home to the Woodards. The family lives in the back four rooms of the painstakingly restored house while the four front rooms are given over to the business operation.
Cheri kind of drifted into her herbs and antiques. As part-owner of Beautiful Day, a natural food store in Maryland, she ran an herb department eight years ago.
“My interest started then,” she said. “I had a lot of customers from Rappahannock. They all said come out and visit. I finally did and I loved it.” Cheri moved to Rappahannock with her son Adam and began working with Mrs. Florence Williamson, Woodville’s grand lady of herbs.
