A check of area station: prior to the busy Memoria Day weekend found ga: supplies 10 to 30 per ceni below last year with somt operators going to shortenec hours and maximum pur chases. None of the station operators sounded ap prehensive but neither would anyone predict what allocations will be in the coming months.
Exxon stations appear to be the most affected. Fred Settle reported his Sperryville Exxon is closing on Wednesdays to stretch gas supplies out through the month while Jenkins Exxon in Amissville now closes at noon on Saturday and 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Both stations are currently receiving 80 per cent of the gas allocation they received last year.
Settle and Mrs. Sarah Jenkins also said that their stations had run out of gas between deliveries in the last month.
