To the editor:
Everyone is aware of the Three Mile Island incident which has provided a platform for antinuclear voices recently. We do not deny there are important lessons to be learned from this, and fully support governmental efforts to insure safe and efficient development and licensing of nuclear plants. We are afraid, however, of “overreaction” through regulations written by government bureaucrats who do not consider the overall economic impact of the regulations they so easily set forth. These regulations are reflected in our member’s monthly electric bill. Thirty cents of each dollar our member pays for electricity is the result of regulatory legislation!
We, at Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative, are currently proposing a consolidation of our operations with Virginia Electric Cooperative, Bowling Green, in an effort to keep the frequency and size of future rate increases to a minimum. We fear, however, that even our best efforts and intentions will be washed out if the costs we have to pay for
