Rappahannock >#*w* Staff Writer At a special meeting on Thursday, May 22, Rappahannock’s board of zoning appeals approved a temporary variance to allow the Nationwide Pentacostal Evangelistic Association a single camper hook-up at the organization’s nine-acre site near Castleton.
Along with permission for one connection to water and electricity for the ten days of NPEA’s 1980 camp meeting, the BZA attempted to impose controls on excessive noise. As conditions of the variance, amplifiers at the campgrounds must be turned off at 10 p.m. with organized preaching to cease at 11 p.m. Worshipers do not have to disperse at that time, however, and may continue singing and prayer.
In addition, an unlimited number of campers will be permitted to park on the property as long as the units are not hooked in to water, electricity or sewer. For waste disposal, the campers will use the planned dumping station, yet to be installed and approved by the health department.
The BZA also stipulated that noise controls listed in Article 13 of the zoning ordinance will apply to the campground. They included, however, only the criteria for decible levels covered in Table I rather than the more stringent controls in Table II.
