At a public meeting on Friday, Mr. Arthur Smoot stood up and charged the Rappahannock News with using its pages to distort the facts.
Mr. Smoot failed to publicly state any particulars and since the charges are serious, we asked him after the meeting for elaboration.
He gave us one example—last week’s editorial where we stated that the school board which refused to allow a cushion for expected gas price hikes in this year’s budget is the same board that overreacted and included $2 per gallon in the proposed budget for 198081. It wasn’t the same board, Mr. Smoot told us, because Paul Nichols was the Wakefield representative in the first instance and Robert Eastham in the second.
