Believes In Youth
"I’ve been involved with local projects because I believe in the young people of Rappahannock County. We’ve got a pretty good crop of kids here in Rappahannock and we should give them the best possible education that we feasibly can.” Foster said.
Describing himself as a resident and a taxpayer, H. S. Barksdale stated that he has demonstrated his interest in education for 50 years even though he has never had children in the school system. Barksdale cited his efforts 50 years ago when he supervised more than 100 4-H members during his employment as county extension agent. More recently, he noted, he’s worked to raise money for the Northern Virginia 4-H Center that ■ is -WifcuTly *i being— constructed in Warren County.
“I think we have a man on the board now who’s qualified and doing a good job.” Barksdale said. "I strongly represent the reappointment of Richard Eastham,” he concluded.
“That’s Robert Eastham,” corrected trustee Granville - Eastham, brother of the incumbent school board member.
“I go along with Mr. Barksdale,” added Nelson Atkins.
“Incidentally, Mr. Atkins brought a petition with 25 signatures,” interjected trustee chairman Ned Johnson.
