To the editor:
Last Friday night the Electoral Trustee Board reached new heights in arrogance. Despite numerous favorable comments and a petition with over 250 names from Wakefield District in support of Mr. Guy Foster, the board reconfirmed the choice of Mr. Robert Eastham for the School Board. The selection perpetuates the rancor and chaos that have characterized Mr. Eastham’s dealings with the school administration, teachers and public for the past year. It's rather telling that none of those on the Electoral Trustee Board and only a few of those who spoke in favor of Mr. Eastham have children in the public schools. It's a sad commentary on the state of our democratic society when individuals in positions of power put their own narrow self interests above the avowed interests of the majority most directly affected by their decisions.
Throughout all segments of society, there is increasing cynicism and disillusionment with government in general. There’s little wonder why. The tail has wagged the dog again. JERRY W. MARTIN, M.D.
