Distortion Charged
Arthur Smoot charged The Rappahannock News with distorting accounts printed in the paper. “I know how things have been twisted around in that paper," he said, suggesting that school board meetings be recorded and the facts printed in the press.
Karen Bear countered that The Rappahannock News reporter attends every school board meeting and “writes every single word exactly as it’s spoken. I support her,” Bear concluded, setting off another round of applause from the audience.
Diane Wood, identifying herself as a landowning taxpayer, said she cried for joy last year when she received her contract to teach third grade at the elementary school. “I started out as the most gung ho teacher you’ve ever seen,” she told the trustees. “But I’ve grown almost to despair.” she added, charging that Eastham in particular doesn’t understand the job of teaching. “Charles Eldred is one of the few positive voices on the school board,” she stated, supporting his reappointment.

Lisa Louise Luttrell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burrell M. Luttrell of Silsbee, Texas, was graduated May 3 from Texas A. & M. University. She will begin her graduate studies at the university in the fall.
Miss Luttrell is the granddaughter of L.H. Luttrell and niece of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Dennis of Amissville.
