The property, owned and farmed by the Johnson family since 1840, consists of 112 acres in orchards. 90 acres in hay. 320 acres in pasture. 210 acres in timber and 11 acres of waste.”
According to the county forester, the timber is commercially valuable. The advisory committee's report also notes that Johnson's orchards, first planted in 1870, yield more than 65,000 bushels of apples per year which makes him the third or fourth largest producer in the county. In addition, the Sperryville farmer maintains a herd of approximately 100 black Angus cattle, according to the report.
