Spirits were high, as were colored balloons which pervaded the atmosphere at the banner opening Saturday of Rappahannock Farmers’ Market on Route 211 west of Washington.
There were more vendors than ever before, the broadest spectrum of fresh produce, vegetable and flower plants, canned goods, home made bread and other baked goods, cut flowers, fresh eggs, and a greater variety of craft products, according to a market spokesman.
Speaker for the occasion, Mary Beth Martin, who is actively engaged in working for improvements in the educational system and for ERA. complimented those responsible for establishing the market and providing the outlet, thereby improving the economy of the county. She urged vendors and customers alike to spread the word here and in surrounding areas, and urge participation in the venture.
Vendors and customers formed a circle and presented testimonials for the maiket, citing what each could do to help the market, each other and the economy of Rappahannock.
Next Saturday, May 31, Stephen Shaffer, a weaver, will demonsrate the use of his loom in making the products which he has for sale.
