‘Til step down from the chair to nominate Robert Eastham,” said Johnson when there ^ere no further speakers on the Wakefield appointment. "That in effect elects Robert Eastham but I guess we should vote,” he added after Granville Eastham seconded the nomination. Trustee Christine Johnston was the only dissenter of the three, voting against Eastham.
“If you're not going to listen to the people, would you like us to leave?” asked Raye Rector. There was no response from the trustees and the majority of the audience, most from Wakefield District, left the auditorium, some in tears.
“I hope I’m not wasting my time,” began William "Yogi” Bear, leading off the speakers on the Hampton District appointment. Citing the excellent job done in the past year by Charles Eldred, Bear called for his continuance on board and handed the trustees petitions with 81 Hampton' District ! signatures in Eldred’s support.
Ellen Manson added her endorsement, describing Eldred as "well-educated and fiscally responsible” and noting that he has three children in the public schools.
